World Telecommunication and Information Society Day 2017 Theme for World Telecommunication and Information Society Day 2017 (WTISD-2017) Is "huge data to make a huge impact"17 May 2017 In the context of this day's celebration, the potential of large data in development will be explored and opportunities for transforming unprecedented amounts of data into information that can drive development. World Telecommunication DayThe celebration is held annually since 1969 on International Telecommunication Day on 17 May, the date of the founding of the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) and the signing of the First International Telegraph Convention in 1865. The Plenipotentiary Conference was held in Malaga, Torremolinos in 1973.
World Information Society DayIn November 2005, the World Summit on the Information Society (WSIS) called on the United Nations General Assembly to declare May 17 as World Information Society Day to highlight the importance of information and communication technology and the multi-stakeholder issues raised by the World Summit. Accordingly, the General Assembly adopted a resolution (A / RES / 60/252) in March 2006, in which it decided to observe World Information Society Day on 17 May each year. World Telecommunication and Information Society Day In November 2006, the Plenipotentiary Conference of the Union in Antakya, Turkey, decided to celebrate both events in a single day, World Telecommunication and Information Society Day, on 17 May each year. In its updated resolution 68, the Conference invites Member States and Sector Members to celebrate this day annually through the organization of appropriate national programs aimed at: *Encouraging research and exchange of ideas on the subject adopted by the Council *Establishing dialogue on various aspects of the subject with all relevant partners in society *Preparing a report indicating the national level discussions on issues related to this subject and to send the report to the Union and its other members
